A-Eye Anti Facial Recognition Mask

Designed to hack facial recognition algorithms and disrupt the data feed by creating noise, this mask is both useful and a political statement about the tensions in civil rights, personal privacy, censorship, data collection and mass surveillance.

- Important issues raised during the pandemic.

NFC Smart Tiki Otago Museum

The Otago Museum purchased a full set of my NFC Smart Tiki to hold in perpetuity as a part of their Toi Maori Collection.

The pieces were chosen to showcase a pivotal and unique fusion of traditional, contemporary, physical and digital concepts of Hei Tiki Taonga expressions.

Matihiko Taonga V1.0

Produced for the Art Of Technology exhibition in Tauranga, Matihiko Taonga V1.0 used digital manufacturing tools and technologies to translate traditional Maori concepts around tools and Taonga into contemporary pieces that speak of our time.

The pieces were produced using CAD engineering software and advanced 3D printing in metals and composites.

National Science Challenge and SCION

In 2018 I was invited to meet researchers at SCION to look at ways of collaborating on projects relating to 3D printing, 4D printing, bio-plastics, meta-materials, and printed electronics.

Its been a privilege to participate in on-going think tank events helping the researchers develop their projects, giving feedback, and exploring directions and use cases for the technology.

Web Design & Branding

I've been playing with the web media space since the early 2000's and in 2014 I started doing professional websites and branding packages for private clients.

Consisting mostly of professional consultants and SME's or startups I helped create their web presence.

Tua Tahi Taonga

Seeking a meaningful craft that was suited to my nomadic lifestyle and that leveraged my knowledge and experience of digital manufacturing while producing something that connected with people, I started experimenting with 3D printing Taonga artefacts, drawing inspiration from my Maori heritage.

Drone filming & video production

I started experimenting with drone filming and video production in 2016 by working on some personal projects that quickly lead into professionally contracted projects.

Puketawhero Park - Digital Mural

In 2016 the Rotorua Lakes Council commissioned a mural for a newly built toilet block at Puketawhero rugby and skate park in Rotorua.

I digitally produced and printed the mural by sketching designs in an A5 sketchbook while spending time at the park, later compiling the sketches using CAD software, and then remotely managing the printing and installation from Queenstown.

Form Designs - Product Designer

Form Designs in Perth, WA, is a company that specializes in contracted industrial and product design. While working at Form Designs I designed a solar powered lighting and communications tower that could be deployed for disaster relief and a nylon molded bin clip for wheelie bins that later went into production selling across Australasia.

McEnteer Design / UDesign

After working in the industry for a little while and with a change in life circumstances, I decided I would try out starting my own business as a design consultant. I did projects in a range of design disciplines from Graphic to Landscape, industrial Design to Technical Drawing and Drafting.

Over time, my business has evolved into the brand you see here and I've focused towards tech orientated art and design.

UDesign - Platform

Around the year 2011, I started to develop an idea for a platform that focuses on connecting creative people with an open market to rapidly accelerate product design, development and manufacture. In 2016 I was provided with an opportunity to pitch the idea, so I assembled a team of creators to help me produce a couple of videos that would pitch the idea.

I built my remote team with people from New Zealand, Indonesia, and Bulgaria, and we collaborated via the internet.

Stereoscopic AR viewer Prototype

HIT Lab NZ

Back when color screen cell phones were first entering the market, I helped to design and prototype an experimental Augmented Reality viewer for HIT Lab NZ (Human Interface Technology). The device was exploring new directions for interactive stereoscopic AR technology.

The device was produced using "Rapid Prototyping" or what is now known as 3D printing, and utilized early VR headset screens and digital cameras - all of which were bulky and low resolution by todays standards, and the computing had to be performed via a high spec PC.

Today the technology is all built into your cellphone.

Formway Furniture - Junior Product Designer

Near the end of my time at university I started work for Formway Furniture in their custom design team modifying existing product designs and creating customized solutions for clients.

Dumunpalit Island: Resort 2055

In 2006 I inspired a team of people to volunteer their time to create a conceptual project about a modular undersea resort for the year 2055.

We presented the concept by producing a guest brochure with a digital keycard that allowed you to virtually check in and had an interactive presentation stored on it. The presentation introduced guests to the resort and exhibited the various activities they could do, resort layout and plans, and how to get there (luxury submarine).

Onslow College, Wellington

1998 - 2002

I went to high school at Onslow College in Wellington, NZ. I found core subjects like Math, Science and English a drag and instead focused a lot of my energy towards the subjects of Graphics, Design Tech (Workshop) and Art.

I owe a lot to the the teachers at Onslow who nurtured my creative side and gave me ample room to explore in my rambunctious teens.

A special thank you to:

Bill Taylor of Raroa 96-97, and Motu Samaeli, Ron van Musscher,

Rob Brown and Steve Mitchell of Onslow College 98-02.

Bachelor of Design: Landscape Architecture, Victoria University

I started studying a Bachelor of Design in 2003, pursuing a major in Landscape Architecture I later abandoned the course near the beginning of my 3rd year in 2007 to pursue work as an Industrial Designer.

I left because during my time at university, my skills, interests, and network moved towards product design and at the time I felt no need to complete the degree having already entered the industry and working as a designer.

RPS Switchgear - Design Draftsman

After Formway, I worked for RPS Switchgear doing technical drafting and 3D modelling for the mechanical design of high voltage circuit breakers. I helped to develop safety systems for internal arc faults and worked on hundreds of technical drawings for manufacturing.
